Karnah, Sep 30 (JKNS): Troops of 7 Rashtriya Rifles apprehended an individual carrying narcotics during a routine frisking operation at NC Pass, also known as Nastachun Pass, which is located at an altitude of about 10,000 feet.

The incident took place in Karnah subdivision of Kupwara district, nearly 60 kilometers from the district headquarters Kupwara.

The accused has been identified as Bashir Ahmed, son of Sattar Joo, resident of Haji Nar, Hajinar, Tangdhar. He was traveling in vehicle number JK 01 T 7627 from Tangdhar to Srinagar when the alert troops recovered approximately 8–10 grams of Hashish from his possession. The recovery was made by Sepoy Shahid Naseer during a thorough frisking operation.

On questioning, Bashir Ahmed confessed to carrying the narcotics in a written statement recorded in the presence of police representatives. He was subsequently handed over to Tangdhar Police for further legal proceedings.

The operation highlights the synergy between the Army and local police in curbing drug trafficking and ensuring regional safety. Security forces reiterated their commitment to protect society from the menace of narcotics through strict vigilance and continuous checks at strategic transit points such as NC Pass, a vital route connecting Tangdhar with the rest of Kupwara district.
