Srinagar, Mar 25 Four more persons were on Wednesday tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir valley, bringing the total number of infected people to seven.An official told UNI that four more people have been tested positive for Coronavirus on Wednesday in Kashmir valley, where with these fresh cases, seven are ‘active positive’ while one patient has recovered.
Confirming the development, J&K Union Territory spokesperson Rohit Kansal said four more persons, all from Bandipora in north Kashmir, have tested positive for Coronavirus. “Preliminary findings suggest they were close contacts of Srinagar patient who tested positive on Tuesday,” he twitted. He said all five have participated together in a religious event.A 67-year-old woman, who was the first person to be tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir valley, was treated successfully, according to officials.
Three persons, who were tested positive on Tuesday, included an elderly man from Natipora, who had returned from Saudi Arabia on March 16, a 57-year-old man from Hyderpora, who had returned from New Delhi recently after attending ‘Tablighi Jamaat’ attended by people from Indonesia and Malaysia and a 22-year-old youth from Bandipora.
Sources said the four persons, who tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, were in contact with the Hyderpora resident.
Streets and markets remained deserted as strict restrictions continued for the seventh successive day on Wednesday to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the summer capital, Srinagar, and other parts of Kashmir valley, where about 80 people were arrested and several shops were sealed for violating lock down order during the last 48 hours.
The Srinagar administration on Wednesday said that the doctors suggest actual cases in community could probably be more than those tested positive for Coronavirus and urged people to remain indoors.
Asking people not to panic, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary asked them to report to designated hospitals if they have symptoms or travel history.
