Power crisis hits Nowgam areas in Srinagar, admin unmoved

Srinagar, April 01: The inhabitants of several areas of Nowgam, are in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing them to provide them with adequate supply from past several weeks.The residents said that for the past one month they are suffering badly due to iregularand unscheduled power cuts.They said in Nowgam, Bunpora an, Hajam Mohalla, areas are reeling under darkness from the past few days while PDD has been making no efforts to restore the electricity in the area.Istiyak Ahmad Sheikh a local told JKNS that, PDD is not following any curtailment schedule in the area. We hardly get electricity for few hours in a whole day, he said.He said for past one month, we are suffering badly, adding that there PDD employees have neglected the area.Another group of people from Hajam Mohalla Nowgam said they are facing acute problems from several weeks, leaving lcals them high and dry.They said they approached many officials at the Tehsil headquarters but things have remained unchanged on the ground.“Despite paying bills on time, we are forced to spend evenings and nights in darkness,” said Danish Rasool, a local.He said their transformer had developed a technical snag but still they take a lot of time to resolve their problem.“We approached PDD Office Department Chanapora and also approached Tehsildar South city but nothing happened on the ground,” Rasool said.A senior official at PDD told JKNS that issue would be resolved and stated that the transformer of the area had developed a technical snag. “The transformer would take 1-2 days as due to current lockdown, the department is also facing some problems,” he said.
