Srinagar: Seeking immediate clearance of snow from various arterials in the remote areas of north Kashmir, National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday said the disruption of road connectivity in those areas has put the
local people in duress.xpressing concern over the difficulties faced by people of remote hamlets of North Kashmir, Dr Abdullah said, “The major arterials connecting Dawar, Kanzalwun, Keran, Karna, Gurez and Jumgund to their district headquarters haven’t been cleared of snow yet. People living in those areas are going through immense difficulties. Dearth of necessary items, including medicines and ration is also severely felt in all those area.”He said that students, elderly and patients are in particular at the receiving end due to the blockage of roads connecting these far-flung areas to district headquarters. “The health centers in these areas are bereft of required paramedical staff and medicines. The situation is no different in the snow bound region of Chenab region where the access to all upper hamlets is yet to be restored,” he alleged.Alleging lackadaisical approach of the administration towards extenuating the problems of people following recent snowfall in upper reaches, he said, “No satisfactory measures are being undertaken to clear snow from roads connecting far-flung areas with their
respective district headquarters. Nothing is being done to repair damaged transformers. Prices of household commodities are sky rocketing.”“There are no flying squads on grounds to check price rise in the rural areas. The situation has become more precarious in wake of the present Covid-19 threat. Normal life is out spin with no semblance of good governance on ground in the far-flung areas of J&K,” he alleged.Dr Abdullah said resumption of connectivity is the main issue that has to be tackled on priority basis.
