DDC Anantnag reviews progress of Agriculture sector

ANANTNAG, JUNE 05: The District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, K.K.Sidha today reviewed the progress of agriculture sector in the district here at Dak Bungalow.

On the occasion while taking review of the progress of works being conducted, the DDC directed concerned officials for achieving the targets within the given time and stressed them to involve the farmers in agriculture and allied activities like bee keeping, backyard poultry, mushroom cultivation, apiculture and poultry.

He directed the agriculture department to ensure issuance of soil health cards, KCC details, PM Kisan Mandan Yojna and identification of land for construction of honey processing plant under the able support of district administration.

Emphasising on organic farming, the DDC asked Chief Agriculture Officer for close coordination and consultations with SKUAST to introduce varieties of Paddy, Maize and Pulses as per the topography of the district.

He also stressed for cultivation of high yielding variety   of paddy and maize crops for better harvest from the available land, besides ensuring benefits to the farmers by way of providing seeds and machinery on subsidized rates to bring change in the economic conditions of the farming community.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Khan through a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the achievements made by the department during 2019-2020 and said that the district has a gross cropped area of 71626 hectares out of which 44254 hectares was brought under Kharief crops while as 26972 hectares under Rabi crops.

He said for promotion of apiculture, 281 bee keepers have been registered having 19919 bee colonies and 4456 qtls. of honey has been produced in the district generating revenue of 1116 lacs.

Under flagship programmes of PM-KISAN, PM-KMY, a basic survey of 120625 farmers has been completed and a fixed target of 89649 beneficiaries stand identified under PM-KISSAN SAMMAN NIDHI out of which 88417 beneficiaries stand uploaded and registered on portal besides a total of 84514 KCC beneficiaries are being provided advances by various banks.

The meeting was also attended by JD Planning, DD Planning Statics & Evaluation, all SDOs, AEOs, JEOs and other field functionaries of the agriculture department.
