Police arrests 07 drug peddlers; Huge quantity of psychotropic substance recovered

July 20: Continuing its drive against drug dealings in Srinagar and Kulgam, Police in a series of actions have arrested 07 drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of psychotropic substance from their possession.

Officers at a checkpoint within the jurisdiction of PS Harwan intercepted a person identified as Zubair Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Ayaz resident of Zainadar Mohalla Habba Kadal.

During checking, officers have recovered 1000 tablets of psychotropic substance from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to PS Harwan where he remains in custody. Accordingly, case FIR No. 63/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Harwan and investigation was initiated.

During investigation, officers also learnt about the involvement of another individual identified as Mahroof Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Salam resident of Zaina Kadal. Officers from PS Harwan tracked the individual and recovered huge quantity of 5500 tablets of psychotropic substance from his possession. He was also arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In the jurisdiction of PP Nehru Park, Officers at a checkpoint established near Ghat No. 19 on Boulevard road intercepted an individual identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Ali Mohd resident of Laam Brein Nishat. During checking, officers were able to recover contraband substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Case FIR No. 85/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station RM Bagh and further investigation has been initiated.

Similarly in Kulgam, Officers at a checkpoint established at Jawahar Tunnel intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB02BS – 8276 with four persons on board. They have been identified as Kuldeep Singh son of Krishan Singh, Sandeep Kour wife of Manjeet Singh, Honey Singh son of Manjeet Singh, Paramjeet Singh son of Manjeet Singh all resident of Punjab. During search, officers were able to recover 80 grams of Heroin from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.

Case FIR No. 224/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community.
