Girl allegedly molested by a doctor in Shopian village, CMO orders inquiry

Accused doctor among three staff members suspended: CMO Shopian


Shopian, Sept 06 : A doctor posted at primary health centre in Harmain area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district allegedly tried to molest a girl.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a girl from Aloora area of Shopian who had visited the PHC for treatment alleged that a doctor on duty there tried to molest her.

He said that soon after the incident locals assembled there while the doctor fled from the spot following which locals locked the hospital and staged a protest demonstration, demanding strict action against the doctor involved in the shameful act.

Chief Medical Officer Shopian Dr. Ramesh Malla told KNO that soon after the complaint block medical officer and zonal medical officer rushed to the spot to enquire the matter.

He added that three staff members including the accused doctor have been suspended till pending enquiry.

“Committee has been framed who will investigate the matter after which further course of action will be taken,” he said, adding that involved person will face strict action as per law.

Senior superintendent of police Shopian Amrit Paul Singh said that they are yet to receive any complaint in this regard.

“Once complaint will be submitted, we will initiate an investigation,” he said—(KNO)
