*‘Kashmir lost a lot, we have to work together to bring back its glory’*
Ganderbal, Oct 08 (KNO): Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh Thursday declared open ‘Martyr Ct Altaf Memorial Cricket Tournament 2020’ in which 62 teams are participating in district Ganderbal.
According to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme while following due COVID-19 protocols.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DC Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal, SSP Ganderbal and other senior police officers were present on the occasion.
DGP while speaking on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and said that the department is always eager to organize such events with an aim to provide a platform to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to prove their talent.
He said Jammu and Kashmir Police besides its professional responsibilities is always there to guide and help the youth to excel in different sports.
While paying homage to slain constable Altaf Hussain who was killed in an attack at Nunar, Ganderbal, DGP said that “we lost a brave and courageous cop who did his duty till the last breath of his life.”
He said that “J&K Police is proud that gallant and courageous constable Altaf Hussain gave a befitting reply without caring for his life and attained martyrdom after killing the militants.”
DGP appreciated the efforts of SSP Ganderbal and his team for organizing the event and said that Police Headquarters would provide all possible support for channelizing the energy of youth towards the positive direction.
He said that “it has been always our effort to provide a better platform to the youth interested in sports.” DGP said that the aim of organizing cricket tournaments across Kashmir is to spot talent and prepare two teams each in South, North and Central Kashmir and finally a top Kashmir Eleven Team out of these Six.
He added that J&K Police would like to provide support to this team to perform on National level. He also advised the participating teams to follow the health protocols during the event. He advised the youth to follow their dreams and work as messengers of peace for Jammu and Kashmir.
DGP said that “during the period of disturbance, Kashmir lost a lot but this is the time when we all have to work together to bring back the lost glory of Kashmir.”
He said that “it is our mission to work for peace in J&K and to bring smiles back on the faces of people here and every single individual has to contribute in one way or the other for the peace and prosperous Kashmir.”
DGP said that youth has power for change and they should use their energy in positive activities so that peaceful and prosperous J&K is realized where there would be no place for destruction.
He advised the youth to stay away from drugs as it not only disturbs the family life but society as well. The DGP also interacted with players on the occasion and wished them best on the field and off the field—(KNO)
