YUSMARG MELA: 26 0CT 20Yusmarg Mela is an annual event organized in the pristine and serene surroundings of Yusmarg. This year the Mela was organized on 26 October. The Mela saw an overwhelming turnout of the population residing in the Budgam and the adjoining districts of Pulwama and Shopian, with more than 3500 persons coming out to enjoy the occasion. People of all age groups and from all background turned out in huge numbers. Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen B S Raju, AVSM, YSM, graced the occasion along with Victor Force Commander Maj Gen Rashim Bali, SM, VSM. A variety of events were organized for the local population at Yusmarg. Numerous stalls consisting of Local Handicrafts were on the display. Awareness Stalls for the civilians were also organized, namely Agriculture and Honey Farming, Anti-Drug & COVID. Medical and Veterinary camps were also organized simultaneously. The youths were particularly interested in participating in the volleyball matches, Tug of War and horse riding. There were a variety of Kashmiri cuisines, which were served to the population. The entertainment programs consisted of Bhangra Troupe and Squay Martial Arts display amongst many other attractions. Lt Gen BS Raju felicitated locals consisting of Veer Naris, Social Activists, NEET qualifiers and distributed automatic Wheel Chairs to the specially abled persons. He interacted with all the persons present in the Mela and shared some candid moments also with the young children. He expressed his happiness at the prevalent normalcy in the area. Yusmarg Mela is a symbolic event, wherein Awaam and Army comes together once a year and exchanges well wishes in a cheerful environment. It is a very good forum where bonding between the two further deepens. It also provides the local population a break from the routine life and gives an opportunity to spend a day with the loved ones in Yusmarg.
