Srinagar, Nov 23: The Residents of Rose Colony, Mahjoor Nagar, Srinagar are up in arms against Power Development Department (PDD) over long delay in repairing the transformer which was damaged on Sunday morning.

The residents of the area accused the higher officials of being careless in disposing off their professional duties in this harsh winters amid the novel corona virus pandemic which has curbed the entire world in its tight grip.

A group of residents of Rose colony area of Mahjoor Nagar, Srinagar said they were facing unscheduled power cuts during the peak evening hours resulting great inconveniences and now the entire population of the area is reeling under darkness and has left to the mercy of God by the higher ups of JKPDD.

The frequent issues in the transformers has created great inconveniences to the people during this harsh winters and the concerned authorities seems not interested to resolve such issues.

Amarjeet Singh, a local resident told JKNS that, “The employees of JKPDD are reluctantly careless towards delivering their professional responsibilities as we repeatedly warned them about the load in the area,” adding “This is sheer injustice on our part as every year we are facing the same issues as the higher authorities seems less interested to resolve our long pending pleas.”

He said that there are about 300 families living in the area and every single passing day the figure goes up due to new constructions and the irony is that, the service to the entire area is provided through a single transformer which frequently develops technical snags throughout the year particularly during the winters.

He further added that, “Now I on behalf of the residents of Rose Colony, Mahjoor Nagar, Srinagar appeal to the honourable Lt. Governor and his advisory board to look into this matter seriously and put an end to our years old miseries.”

Another resident Sahil Ahmad told JKNS that, “We are suffering in this bone chilling cold amid the Covid-19 pandemic and no one is listening to our genuine grievances we don’t know which door we need to knock to get our issues addressed in a time bound manner.”

He said that the residents of the area has approached to the higher officials several times and had even submitted the applications for allocating another transformer but nothing has done so far.

He further added, “We have requested the concerned officials number of times to allocate one more transformer for the residents of this area, keeping in view the population but every time they made hollow promises and due to which a common man like us suffers.”
