Srinagar December 14: Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader and party spokesperson Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today met the members of a women social activity group and a delegation of tribal youth in Srinagar and interacted with them about the role of women in new Jammu & Kashmir and the extension of benefits of newly implemented central tribal welfare laws to the tribal communities of J&K. “In DDC polls, we had seats reserved for women. This right was not given to the womenfolk by the earlier governments for decades. Much such discrimination to womenfolk existed here as many such laws and central regulators were not implemented by the local governments here. Now J&K will have special reserved seats for women in the new Assembly,” said Dr Andrabi to women activists. She also informed the tribal youth that for the first time J&K will be having reserved seats for scheduled category representatives in the new Assembly. “Benefits of the central tribal welfare laws have been extended to J&K after a long delay. Those parties, who only used the tribal population as their vote bank, never cared for their rights and needs. J&K scheduled category youth will be getting huge benefits out of these central schemes implemented in J&K now. Dr Darakhshan Andrabi assured both the delegations that many schemes of the Central Minority Affairs Ministry aimed at the women welfare and empowerment and the promotion of the youth of tribal and other scheduled categories will also be implemented on a large scale now with much transparency in the Union Territory.
