Awantipora police arrests 03 drug peddlers; Contraband substances recovered

January 03: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Awantipora have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Officers at a checkpoint established at Toll Plaza intercepted two persons riding a Scooty bearing registration No. JK01AH-4575. They have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Teli resident of Sheikh Mohalla Soura Srinagar and Manzoor Ahmad Kounda resident of Dawood Colony Soura, Srinagar. During checking, officers were able to recover 02kg of grinded Charas from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station Awantipora where they remain in custody. Scooty used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused persons have received the contraband substance from one person namely Feroz Ahmad Beigh resident of Hari-parigam, Awantipora.

After completing all legal formalities, a police team along with Magistrate raided the house of Feroz Ahmad Beigh at Hari-parigam, Awantipora. During search, 50gms Heroin, 01kg Charas powder and 12kgs of grinded Cannabis have been recovered from the said house. Subsequently, Feroz Ahmad Beigh has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
