DDC Doda reviews implementation of District Road Safety Plan ‘53% decline in fatal accidents, 69% in deaths recorded against last year’

DODA, JANUARY 12: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Doda, Dr Sagar D Doifode who is also the Chairman of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), today reviewed the implementation of “District Road Safety Plan” here at a meeting of the Committee.

The DDC took detailed appraisal of the Action Taken Report at the meeting attended by the SP operations, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Road Transport Officer, EX En PMGSY, PWD Doda and Bhaderwah, DIO, besides other officials of the concerned Committee.

Discussion was held on key issues, including strategy & reduction of road fatalities, audit of road segments prone to accidents, identification of Black Spots and rectification, enforcement of traffic laws, strengthening of Highway patrolling, installation of crash barriers, maintenance of bridges, checking of overloading and over-speeding of public transport, status and mapping of ambulances on NHs especially near trauma hospitals and training of staff.

The DDC directed the Ex En PWD Doda to conduct the road safety audit of national highway from km 9 upto Thathri, while Xen PMGSY Thathri was asked to conduct the audit of road from Thathri to Gandoh and Xen PWD Bhaderwah was asked to conduct the audit of road from Doda to Bhaderwah.

He stressed on immediate action for identifying black spots, initiating remedial measures, installation of signages, painting at the black spots, generation of awareness etc for making the roads in the district safer.

 The DDC expressed overall satisfaction on the road safety measures, which led to a decline in the rate of fatal accidents and deaths to 69% and 53% respectively, in comparison to the last year.

The Directions were also issued to Municipalities, traffic and motor vehicles department for identification of parking spaces in their respective towns to enable enforcement of complete ban on roadside parking.

While reviewing the disbursement of relief among the accident victims, the DDC asked the CMO to compile the cases and send the same to concerned authorities for appropriate action.

The meeting was informed that 30 kanal state land has been identified in the adjoining area of Doda for scrap yard of vehicles, ARTO office and   driving test facility. The DDC directed the concerned   to submit the indent immediately for further course of action.
