Webinar on Safety & Efficacy of Vaccines held at Aryans College of Pharmacy

Srinagar, 21st Jan:To discuss the role of vaccination in controlling the spread of diseases Aryans Colleges of Pharmacy, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh organized a webinar on “Safety & Efficacy of Vaccines”. Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Professor, Dr. HSJ Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Punjab University, Chandigarh interacted with faculty members and Aryans students of Engineering, Law, Management, Nursing, Pharmacy, B.Ed and Agriculture. Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.
Dr. Jyoti while interacting with students said that for the past two centuries, vaccines have provided a safe and effective means of preventing infectious diseases. The duration of immunity varies with different diseases and different vaccines, she said. She enlightened students about Covid 19 Vaccine.
She further explained that the Vaccine efficacy is the percentage reduction of disease in a vaccinated group of people compared to non vaccinated group, whereas effectiveness is measured once the vaccine is approved for use in the general population. She discussed immunization program & mode of actions of vaccines.
She explained about Herd immunity mechanism by which the larger community can be protected. No vaccine is 100% effective, a small percentage of people are not protected after vaccination and for others the protection
may wane over time, she added.
