SRINAGAR, JANUARY 23: The Legal Metrological Department (LMD) booked 08 erring traders for violating various Legal Metrology norms and recovered a fine of Rs. 82,000 during market checking inspection, here.

The inspection was conducted by a team of Enforcement wing of LMD under the chairmanship of Deputy Controller Enforcement Kashmir, Muzafar Wani across various parts of Srinagar after several complaints filed by consumers alleging overcharging and other unfair trade practices resorted to by the traders.

The market checking booked 08 defaulters including Gas Agency and a Departmental Store for violating various Legal Metrology norms.

In one such case,  various packaged products were found without the mandatory declaration like MRP, Net Weight, Customer Care number, etc, upon them. The MRP was also found smudged and Stickers were pasted on the products which is a violation under Legal Metrology Law.

In another case, a Gas Agency was found overcharging the Consumers by Rs. 20 for each LPG Cylinder and no bill was provided to the consumers.

The concerned traders accepted the violations on their part and pleaded before the department to compound their cases departmentally rather than sending them to the court of Law. Furthermore, they assured the department that such types of offenses will not be repeated in future.
