Sopore Police arrests drug peddler; psychotropic substance recovered Bootlegger arrested in Awantipora

February 18: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested a drug peddler in Sopore and recovered psychotropic substance & cash amount of ₹1710 from his possession. Besides, arrested a bootlegger in Awantipora and seized 40 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.

Officers from Police Station Sopore at a checkpoint established at Warpora intercepted a person identified as Muhammad Rafiq Ganie son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Ganie resident of Dangerpora Sopore. During checking, officers were able to recover 192 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon and a cash amount of ₹1710 from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 41/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation has been initiated.

Similarly, Police in Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Awantipora Chowk intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK13C-0884 with one person on board. He has been identified as Arif Ahmad Ganie resident of Qaimoh Kulgam. During checking, officers were able to recover 40 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 24/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

         Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
