Police arrests 02 drug peddlers in Awantipora and Kulgam; contraband substances recovered

February 20: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at Batagund Crossing Tral intercepted a suspicious person identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar resident of Larow Jagir Tral.  During checking, officers were able to recover 02Kgs of Cannabis powder from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 10/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tral and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

In Kulgam, officers in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar established a checkpoint at Vessu Chowk and intercepted a vehicle (Bolero) bearing Chassis No. MA1ZP2TLKL6K29287 with one person on board. He has been identified as Subhash Chander resident of Karyal Khurad Colony Vishna, Jammu.  During checking, officers were able to recover 225kgs of poppy straw concealed in 09 gunny bags from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 31/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
