Udhaan School Drugmulla, Wings of hope continues to impart quality education to special needs children of North Kashmir

Kupwara: The Udaan School Drugmulla, Wings of hope is a School for kids with Special Needs which is located in Drugmulla, Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir.

The school was started by the Indian Army in 2010 and now is jointly administered by Thunderbolt Gunners of Army and a Nasik based NGO, Borderless World Foundation (BWF).

The prime motive behind the School is to rehabilitate these children and provide them self-sufficiency, education, improved health and a better future.

The aim is to empower the special abled children in order to help them to be self-reliant for their own daily activities and lead a healthy life and move towards normal life.

“We are working for their physical and psychological recovery, further if possible, social reintegration of these children. At present, we have adopted this unique concept school in Drugmulla, Kupwara District,” said Lieutenant Col J.S Sharma while addressing some prominent journalists.

It was also said that, the future plan is to increase to intake capacity of the school by motivating the parents to send off their wards to the school.

He further added, “The plan in the pipeline is to train the staff in special education and develop a resource centre at Udaan, through which all the people with special needs can be connected and provided with best possible help and assistance, so that they can have a better future.”

However it’s pertinent to mention that according to a survey there are about 300 people living with disabilities in Kupwara District.

“Recently a visually impaired student from this school namely Mohammad Owais recently passed his class 10 by securing 90 percentage and that is the moment of pride for entire administration of the school,” said a teacher on duty.
