New Delhi, Mar 8: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir attended a meeting convened by the Bar Council of India to discuss various issues pertaining to Legal Education, L.L.B, L.L.M. programmes, teachers and professional skill development programmes, nomination to Committees of Bar Council of India here.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir spoke on Legal education and Legal profession in the country. He spoke with critical analysis, the role of the Bar Council of India and its operational issues. Prof. Mehraj ud Din discussed threadbare the issue about the BCI role and as to whether one LL.M course should be scrapped.

He said the standard of legal education has direct bearing on the standard of Legal Profession. “Many Universities/institutions make provisions for obtaining an LL.M. Degree in a most casual manner; without even having any requirement of attending regular classes, and in some places even without having any classes, and without having duly qualified Teachers/PG Faculty/PG Council, (Associate Professors or Professors) and proper infrastructure and degrees are doled out so conveniently,” he remarked.

The event was attended by Senior Advocates, Judges, VC’s of the Law Universities in India and many other professionals from the field.
