Shopian Encounter: Youth suffers pellet injury in eye in Shopian, hospitalized

Srinagar: A 22-year-old youth has suffered injury in his left eye due to pellets fired by government forces to disperse protesters amid a gunfight at Rawalpora area in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Sunday.

A local militant was killed in an overnight gunfight while a US-made M-4 carbine and 36 Armour piercing rounds were recovered from the slain militant, according to a tweet by the army.

The injured youth has been identified as Arif Ahmed Wagay son of Nazir Ahmed Wagay of Rakhnara Shopain. The 22-year-old has suffered injury in his left eye, Dr Nazir Choudhary, Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital where the youth has been admitted.

“He is admitted in ward 8,” the medical superintendent said.
