Lokpal Punjab addresses Aryans Law Students on World Consumer Rights Day.

Jammu 15th March:Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma, Lokpal Punjab addressed students in a webinar on “World Consumer Rights Day” organized by Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh. Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar. Around 500 students of LL.B. & B.A.LL.B. attended the program through zoom, facebook & Youtube.

Justice Sharma while discussing the importance of this day said that this day signifies celebration and solidarity in the international consumer movement, demanding that, consumer rights are to be respected and protected. Consumer Rights broadly means that each consumer has the right to have information about the quality, potency, quantity, purity, price and standard of goods or services, he explained.

He further said that the rights given to Consumers under The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 are Right to Protection, Right of Information, Right of Choice, Right of Hearing & Right of Redressal. The Consumer has the right to choose the product, be protected from all kind of hazardous goods, be informed about the performance and quality of all products, to be heard in all decision-making processes related to Consumer interests, to seek redressal, he elaborated.

Further based on this year theme “Tackle Plastic Pollution”, he discussed that our ecosystem suffers from single-use plastics as these continue to fill our oceans. Where consumers are increasingly concerned about plastic pollution, they are already taking action. As a global consumer movement, we play a critical role in tackling plastic pollution and promoting sustainable consumption, he motivated.
