Kulgam Police solves hit and run case within hours; Accused arrested

March 18: Police Station Qazigund received an information that SO Traffic Bonigam, ASI Mohd Shafi Bhat son of Mohd Ramzan Bhat resident of Nowgam Shangus Anantnag was hit by unknown truck at Bonigam resulting his on spot death. The driver of the truck fled away from the spot along with vehicle.

Acting promptly, PS Qazigund constituted special teams to intercept the vehicle along with accused driver. The team led by SHO Qazigund after strenuous efforts intercepted the involved vehicle (truck) bearing registration number JK22B-4365 along with the accused driver from Choimulla area of Anantnag. He has been identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat resident of Sangrama Sopore.

He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle involved in the crime has also been seized.

A case FIR No. 51/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at PS Qazigund regarding the incident and further investigation of the case is in progress.
