Police busts gang of burglars in Handwara; 02 accused arrested

Stolen property recovered

June 14: Police in Handwara have solved a burglary case by arresting two accused persons involved in the commission of crime besides, recovered stolen property.

On 05/06/2021 Police Station Vilgam received a complaint from one person namely Mohd Sultan Mir son of Ab Ahad Mir resident of Matipora Sharkoot stating therein that during intervening night of 2/3 June 2021, some unknown persons barged into his house and stole all movable property kept in the house.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 48/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Vilgam and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, the officers questioned many suspects and zeroed in on two suspected persons identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir son of Ab Samad Mir resident of Hafrada and Shabir Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh Mohi Uddin Sheikh resident of Hafrada. During questioning both the suspected persons accepted their involvement in the commission of crime.

During further course of investigation, officers also learnt about their involvement in another case FIR No. 22/2021 of PS Vilgam pertains to the burglary attempt at Taratpora market during intervening night of 30/31 March 2021. The accused persons also revealed the involvement of another person identified as Azad Ahmad Mir son of Late Ab Razak resident of Daril Taratpora in the commission of crimes. The said third accused person is still at large and efforts are on to effect his arrest.

On their disclosure, the investigating team were able to recover stolen property including gold ornaments, clothes, battery, copper utensils, cosmetics etc. Further investigation is in progress and more recoveries are expected.

General public have applauded the systematic efforts put forth by Handwara Police and warns of strict action against those individuals found involved in any kind of criminal activity.
