A Forest Protection Force team in a joint operation with police on Tuesday seized a load carrier ferrying illicit timber in Kralgund Qaziabad here.
An official told that on receipt of specific information, a naka was laid down at Gundchubtra in Kralgund Qaziabad area during which a load carrier bearing registration number JK-09 6340 was intercepted and fifteen logs of illicit timber recovered from the vehicle.
A case FIR number 49/2021 under section 379 IPC 26 IF Act was registered in this regard two timber smugglers namely Altaf Ahmad Pir, a resident of Jahama Mawer and Ashraf War, a resident of Shiekh Pora Mawer involved in the act arrested from the spot, the official added.
Range officer Mawer Mohammad Shafi while talking to news agency said that the department has tightened its grip against the smugglers to contain the illegal felling of trees. “We won’t allow the smugglers to succeed in their motives”, the officer further said.
Meanwhile locals in the area have applauded the role of Forest Division Langate supervised by DFO and Range Officer for its action against the timber smugglers.
