Srinagar, September 12: A soldier was injured in a gunfight with militants in Rajouri district on Sunday.
The gunfight started between militants and security forces in higher reaches of Barote Village this morning, they said.
They said that a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in the area after having a specific input about presence of some militants.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of firing between militants and security forces to news agency. Late in the afternoon, he said, a soldier identified as Jiwan Kumar of army’s elite 9 PARA was injured and provided treatment. The searches in the area were underway as this report was filed.
