Two persons were apprehended with a grenade and other material in Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said on Tuesday.
An official said that on Tuesday on a specific information, a joint naka was established by Sopore Police alongwith Army 22 RR and 179 Bn CRPF at Shalimar Colony crossing during which two suspects namely Asif Rasheed War son Abdul Rasheed War and Altaf Hussain Najar son of Abdul Ahad Najar residents of Natnoosa Kupwara were apprehended.
He said that upon their search, a hand grenade and incriminating material was recovered from their possession.
He added that on preliminary enquiry, they disclosed their allegiance to the proscribed militant outfit LeT and intended to lob the acquired grenade at an undisclosed location in Kupwara with an intention to cause casualties.
He added that accordingly case FIR No. 275/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore.
He added that investigation is going on and more arrests are anticipated.
