The module was a part of a cross-border smuggling ring, we are tracking more leads: SSP Bla

A narco-militancy module was busted in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and two persons have been arrested. While officials state that module is a part of the cross-border smuggling ring.
Addressing a presser, SSP Baramulla Rayees Muhammad Bhat said that two persons were arrested and drugs worth Rs 18 crore were recovered from their possession in Dachi area of the north Kashmir district.
“During the usual patrolling from Dachi towards Basgran, the police party found two vehicles on a link road towards Dachi in a suspicious condition. When police party was approaching towards the vehicles, drivers tried to flee away and after some, they were apprehended tactfully,” he said.
SSP Bhat said eight packets of contraband (weighing approx. 9 Kgs value of pure contraband on black market 18 Crore approx.) was recovered from their possession and two persons were arrested from the spot.
They have identified as Mohd Sabir Barwal, resident of Jabda Kamalkote Tehsil Uri, and Parvaiz Ahmad Tantray resident of Reban Rafiabad Sopore. Apart from contraband, during their personal search following recoveries included 3 mobile phones, Cheque 01 (? 5,00,000/-), 07 (? 10,14,500/-), blank cheque leaves, and other evidence.
“FIR No. 17/2022 u/s 8/21-29 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Uri and investigation taken up,” he said adding that investigations revealed that deal was at the final stage.
SSP Bhat said further investigation is under process and more leads would be tracked in the case. We have doubt that this case has also some link of terror funding involved. We have also traced the previous record of the accused,” he said.
“It seems that group was part of cross border ring and the consignment was carried from another side of border to this side. From here onward, it was aimed to be distributed among youth. The illegal amount generated from contraband was aimed to fund the terror activities in the Valley,” he said.
SSP said they also need cooperation from the Police so that these things can be reported at the initial stage. Such action will improve the society in providing rid of the drug menace, he said.
