J&K UT Archery Championship concludes Shrine Board’s Sports Complex archers bring laurels by winning 88 medals

KATRA, March 5- The archers trained at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, Katra have brought laurels by winning 88 medals at 2-day long J&K Archery Championship concluded at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Complex, Katra on Friday.

As many as 34 archers trained and groomed at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, Katra and 150 archers from different Districts and Schools of JK-UT participated in all the categories of this championship held from 3rd – 4th March, organized by J&K Archery Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council and J&K Olympic Association in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

In Senior round boys and girls archery events, Divyansh Suri and Usha won gold, Vinod Singh and Kajal Verma won silver and Bhawani Singh and Simmi won bronze medal. In Senior Recurve round boys and girls competitions, Somya Sharma and Radhika won gold, Vishal Singh and Sikha won silver and Pappu Rathore and Smilee won Bronze medals. In Senior Compound round boys Rakesh Kumar won gold, Shubham won silver and Salman Khan won bronze. Apart, a competition was also held in the junior and sub-junior Boys and Girls category which has encouraged and motivated budding Archers.

Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was the chief guest of the event who congratulated all the archers for their excellent performance. He said that the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex is being developed as a centre of excellence and impressed upon the sportspersons to take optimum benefit from the state-of-the-art equipment and other facilities made available at the Sports Complex. It is pertinent to mention that the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex has been producing sportspersons of national and international standards in various sporting disciplines viz., Archery, Athletics, Judo, Shooting, Badminton etc. who have been showing promising results in varied competitions.

Among those present during the concluding ceremony included Mr Navneet Singh, Addl. Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Dr Sunil Sharma, Jt. Chief Executive Officer; Mr. Vishwajeet Singh, Dy. Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Mahesh Sharma, Chief Accounts Officer Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and other concerned officers of the Board. Mr. Sunil Sharma, Senior Vice President and Mr. Vikas Gupta, Joint Secretary of the Archery Association besides, people in large numbers present on the occasion.

The event concluded with the distribution of Medals and Trophies.
