Police Hospital Jammu conducted orientation course on Bio-Medical Waste Management

Jammu, May 11: Police Hospital Jammu conducted an orientation course for its staff regarding the Bio-Medical Waste Management particularly in the hospitals and its surroundings in general under the supervision of Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal, Medical Superintendent Police Hospital, Jammu in the Conference Hall of District Police Lines Jammu on 10th May-2022.

Dr. Ajay Misri, Dr. Shalni Dogra, Dr. Sunil Kumar Raina, Dr. Neeru Gupta, Dr. Priyanka Sambyal, Dr. Shaista Tabassum, Dr. Sadaf Maheen, Dr. Sophia Jan, Dr. Anil Salathia and other Para-medical staff of Police Hospital Jammu participated in the programme.

On the onset of the programme Medical Superintendent Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal gave a PowerPoint Presentation regarding Bio-Medical Waste Management and importance of segregation of biomedical waste and treatment of each of the categories appropriately and effectively, to render the biomedical waste harmless.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Kotwal stressed upon the role of every individual for making the environment pollution free and also as a responsibility to give our next generations an environment which is free of diseases. She said that Biomedical waste must be properly managed and disposed of to protect the environment, general public and workers, especially healthcare and sanitation workers who are at risk of exposure to biomedical waste as an occupational hazard.

Dr. Kotwal made aware all the staff of the hospital about the generation and proper keeping, segregation and disposal of Bio-Medical Waste as well as utilization of Black, Red, Blue, Yellow and White dustbins during disposing off of Bio Medical Waste. Besides, she also informed that if the biowaste is not disposed off properly it can cause a lot of diseases/infections which adversely affect the patients, attendants, Medical / Para-medical staff and atmosphere of the surroundings.

All the participants discussed in detail the importance of Bio-Medical Waste Management and its treatment.
