Fodder Production and Silage making.
KVK-Kupwara today on 9-06-22 celebrated Wheat Field Day and Conducted Awareness Programme on Green Fodder Production and Silage making at KVK-farm. Programme was attended by Sr. Scientist and Head KVK Kupwara Dr. Kaiser Mohi ud din Malik , Dr. Mirza Iqbal Hussain CEO Khyber Greens, Mr.Javid Ahmad Tantray AEO -/Farm Manager Department of Agriculture Kupwara besides Scientific and Non Scientific staff of KVK . More than fourty farmers participated in the programme. Programme started with the harvesting of the wheat. More than fourty farmers witnessed harvesting of the Wheat. Later on Awareness Programme about double cropping and green fodder production and silage making was held. Programme was hosted by Dr. Raies A Bhat Scientist Agronomy and he welcomed all the participants . Dr. Kaiser Mohi ud din Malik in his adress briefed farmers about the importance of
double cropping by cultivating Wheat and other rabi crops he stressed the participants to follow scientific methods of cultivation of crops. He also described the importance of cultivating fodder maize for green fodder production and silage making and assured participants of full support from KVK in all Agriculture and Allied activities. Dr. Mirza Iqbal Hussain in his address briefed farmers about the fodder production programme of Khyber in collaboration with SKUAST-Kashmir. He described the full process of Silage making of maize and its benefits . Fodder maize seed was also provided to participants by the Khyber Greens. Dr.Raies A Bhat advised participants to include SKUAST-K
released Shalimar Wheat -2 variety of Wheat in the rice cropping system which will increase the income of the farmers and in turn will improve the cropping intensity of the area which is the lowest as compared to other districts of the Valley. He also deliberated on the importance of green fodder and Silage making An interaction session with the farmers was also held and programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr .S. A. Hakeem Scientist Soil Science.
