Sopore, 01 September 2022. Two terrorists including top North Kashmir Jaish commander were killed in a fierce gunfight that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Bomai village of Sopore Tehsil, in Baramulla District of North Kashmir late on Wednesday night.
At about 6.30 PM, a joint team of 22 Rashtriya Rifles, Sopore Police including Special Operations Group and 92 CRPF Battalion launched a Cordon and Search Operation based on specific intelligence. As the security forces surrounded the house and asked the hiding terrorists to surrender, the latter opened heavy fire, even lobbing grenades in an attempt to break the cordon. The security forces acted swiftly, relocating civilians to safer areas. In the ensuing firefight lasting nearly five hours, the terrorists injured one civilian and one soldier, before being eliminated by security forces.
The slain terrorists were identified as Jaish cadres, Mohd Rafiq Lone (resident of Sopore and North Kashmir commander) and Kaiser Ashraf (resident of Pulwama). Two AK-47s along with five magazines & 95 rounds, and one grenade were recovered, in addition to other items, from the terrorists.
The injured civilian (identified as Ali Mohd Ganaie of Bomai) and the soldier were evacuated timely to Srinagar and are reported to be out of danger.
