NIT Srinagar secures 3rd position in 1st J&K Chancellor’s Athletic Meet at IUST

Director, Registrar congratulate athletes for making Institute proud

Srinagar, Sep 07: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar secured the third position in 1st J&K Chancellor’s Athletic Meet Men and Women 2022 organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora Kashmir.

The event was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday in which 80 athletes from 8 Universities from Jammu and Kashmir participated.

During the event, Saswati Priyadarshini (MSc Chemistry)NIT Srinagar bagged a gold medal in the 100m women’s short distance race. Versha Chauhan (MSc Chemistry)bagged a gold medal in 200 meters women’s short distance race.

Similarly, in 400m short distance race  Jangra from Mechanical Department bagged the silver medal for NIT Srinagar. In Discus Throw men, Aman Singh Bisht (Electronics)  bagged the silver medal.

Similarly, in 800 meters Middle Distance Race Swasti from MSCHM  bagged a Silver medal, and in Relay 4/100meters women, Varsha, Tanaya Doley ((Metallurgy), Hamlata, Swasti from NIT Srinagar bagged the silver medals. While as Varsha bagged silver medal in Long Jump in the women’s category.

In 1500 meters Middle Distance Race women’s category, Hamlata from (ECE) department bagged the Bronze medal, and in Discus Threw women category Julma Devi (MSc Chemistry) bagged also Bronze medal for the NIT Srinagar.

The closing ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ramshoo, ADC Awantipora, and other dignitaries.

Congratulating the athletes for bagging medals in different sports categories, Director NIT Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal extended his greetings to the winning participants and stated that it is a proud moment for the entire institute.

“Sports activities are part of the vibrant academic system and we need to focus on all aspects. The regular participation in sports activities teaches us to plan ahead and see through the consequences of our acts,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal assured the athletes of every possible support in terms of coaching and augmentation of their skills and performance. He also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator for making the NIT Srinagar team proud.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari extended his greetings to the winning athletes. We are proud of all the athletes representing our NIT Srinagar at the mega sports event at IUST, he said.

“To support students on campus, we have developed State-of-the-art facilities for sports and will continue to expand our activities in the future,” Prof. Bukhari said adding that such students are inspiration for others as well.

On the occasion, Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator expressed his gratitude to the NIT Srinagar administration for supporting such initiatives on the campus.

The NIT Srinagar team was escorted to IUST by Kowsar Ali Mir (SAS Officer), Sohail Ahmad Baba (SAS Assistant), and Abdul Hamid (Sr. Technician).
