28 Sep 22, Kupwara. The Indian Army celebrates ‘The Gunners Day’ on 28 September to mark the occasion of the year 1827, when the 5th (Bombay) Mountain Battery was raised. Since then, Regiment of Artillery has grown in strength and capability with each passing day. Today it boosts of a dynamic inventory which ranges from Lethal & High Mobility guns to Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers, Ballistic Missiles, Precision Guided Ammunition & hi-tech surveillance equipments. The Regiment of Artillery has always been a battle winning factor in wars and its role & significance is bound to increase manifold in future.
The ‘Gunners’ of Kupwara celebrated 196th Gunners day with zeal & enthusiasm. The celebrations started with a Basketball match between officers & men. This was followed by Flag Hoisting ceremony with a traditional fervor by remembering and paying homage to ‘Our Fallen Heroes’.
A voluntary Blood Donation was organised with the support of CMO, Kupwara and local Army medical unit as an ‘Act of Solidarity’. A total of 38 Army personnel & civilians donated blood at the camp. A lecture was also conducted by an Army Doctor on importance & nuances of blood donation.
The Celebration culminated with the pledge undertaken by Chinar Gunners to achieve further higher standards of excellence and uphold their professional competence at all times. The gunners dedicated themselves to uphold the ethos & spirit enshrined in the motto of ‘Sarvatra Izzat-O-Iqbal’ meaning ‘Everywhere with Honour and Glory’.
