2 Drug Peddlers Booked Under PIT NDPS Act in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar, Feb 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said to have booked two drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Awantipora, Pulwama.   “Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Awantipora have booked two notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act  after obtaining formal detention orders  from the competent authority”, reads a statement issued to GNS.   “The two drug peddlers have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh @Patanjali son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh resident of Tulbagh Pampore and Javaid Ahmad Dar @Brichi son of Mohammed Akram Dar resident of Meej Pampore”, the statement reads.  “It is pertinent to mention that the duo was involved in many NDPS cases. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, the accused were promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth in Pampore and its adjoining areas. Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the competent authority, the arrested drug peddlers were detained under PIT NDPS act”, the statement reads.  “Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace”, the statement reads further.
