Srinagar, May 03: In a first, a young trekker hailing from Budgam presently residing in Srinagar has brought laurels to his village and his community by being the first trekker of the season to reach Soras Lake and hoist the holy Nishan Sahib (Saffron Flag)

On 29th of April, Amanpreet Singh kick started his trek along with his companions including mountaineer expert Muzamil Hussain in the wee hours to scale the harsh snow clad mountains in order to reach the Soras Lake and hoist the holy flag there.

Singh is an alumnus of Tyndale Biscoe School, Diocese of Amritsar and his love for the mountains arose from his early childhood by taking part in various treks and nature expeditions on the part of co-curricular activities organised by the school administration.

In an attempt to earn the opportunity, Singh recently joined a local trekking group headed by some renowned local athletes who have proven their mettle in their respective beats.

The mesmerising Soras Lake is located at a height of about 3,600 metres approximately which continues to fascinate the visitors particularly during the spring season when the mesmerising Lake is surrounded by the view of majestic snow clad mountains.

In mountainous region of Kashmir, trekking is a popular outdoor activity that involves hiking or walking through rugged terrain, often for an extended period. It is an excellent way to experience nature, challenge yourself physically and mentally, and connect with the environment.

In an exclusive interaction with Daily Gadyal, Amanpreet Singh said, “I was always fascinated by the great mountains and mother nature particularly whenever I visited my native village Beerwah, Budgam with my Dad Mr. Rajinder Singh who have always extended his support to me, whenever needed.”

He said the biggest challenge in this trek was the snow accumulation, which not only exhausted me but my companions as well but personally speaking hoisting Nishan Sahib there lend me a moment of proud and solace.

He further added, “Before embarking on a trek, it is important to prepare adequately which includes choosing appropriate clothing and footwear, bringing enough food and water, and carrying essential equipment’s such as a compass, map, and first aid kit. You should also be aware of the weather conditions and potential hazards along the route.”

“Trekking can be an enriching and unforgettable experience that allows you to immerse yourself in nature and challenge your physical and mental abilities. Whether you are a seasoned trekker or a beginner, there are many different routes and levels of difficulty to choose from, so you can find one that suits your interests and abilities,” he further added.
