Inter- Divisional UT Level competitions in 10 disciplines inaugurated at Jammu
Srinagar: The Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K under it’s initiative of tapping and channelizing sports talent in youth and students particularly on Tuesday kick started a mega inter-district tournament in Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Basketball and Tug of War at Indoor Stadium Polo Ground here. The tourney was declared open by Director of the Department Subash C Chhibber. He was accompanied by Joint Director Kashmir of YS&S Waseem Raja. Director Sports emphasised on the importance of engaging youth in games and sports while highlighting it’s countless benefits for the overall development of youth in general and students in particular. He added that in today’s world sports has become more relevant considering how it helps a person to develop harmoniously. “Fitness & Sports compliment each other and both are equally important in current times.” Director further added.
District Youth Services and Sports Office Sringar hosted the competitions in for U/19 Boys. Players from all 10 Districts of the Kashmir Province are participating. District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar Gh Hassan Lone and other officials and field staff of the Department was also present in the glittering opening ceremony of the event.
Similarly sports activities are in full swing in different sports zones of Jammu division. The Inter- Divisional UT Level Under 19 competitions for Boys and Girls in 10 disciplines were inaugurated by the Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Jammu Suram Chand Sharma at M.A. Stadium. The Inter Division UT Level for which competitions started at Jammu on Tuesday include Kabaddi, Chess, Yoga, Hand ball, Basket-Ball, Kho-Kho, Gymanstics, Wrestling, Weight Lifiting, Shooting. Student players form all the 20 Districts of the UT participated in the tournament. The selection was made on the basis of performances for the U-19 Boys/Girls UT Level teams in these sports disciplines for participation in the National Games being organised by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI)commencing from 5th of June 2023 at New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, JD Jammu congratulated the sports person for their selection in the Divsional Level Teams. He also exhorted upon them to take part in Games and Sports too and promote sports culture to channelise Youth energy to keep them away from drug menace social evils. He also inaugurated various matches and encouraged the players and exhorted upon them to display good sportsmanship while participating in any sporting events.
