Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport, being one of the oldest outdoor sports dating back to ancient India. It is the second most popular traditional tag game in the India after Kabaddi. With firm belief that, ‘empowerment of women is imperative for a better tomorrow and that by empowering the women, we empower the future of the society’ and in yet another step towards upliftment of Kashmiri women, Indian Army organised Kho-Kho competition in Girls High School, Payarpora on 27 July 2023.
Total of four teams participated in the competition. Teams were divided into two groups of two teams each for group stage knock out matches and final match was played between winners of the two group matches.
All the teams participated with great zeal and the hardwork and efforts being put in by them was a sight to watch. Girl students were greatly supported and motivated by their school teachers throughout the duration of competition and it resulted in very lively and healthy participation by the girls. Top two teams were awarded with winner and runner up trophies respectively and medals to individual players.
Total of around 100 girl students and school staff witnessed the event and the event culminated with prize distribution followed by refreshments for all. Event was greatly appreciated by the School Principal and the staff and they expressed heartfelt gratitude to Indian Army.
