Police arrests 07 drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested 07 drug peddlers in Sopore, Kulgam, Budgam & Baramulla and recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.

In Sopore, a police party at a checkpoint established at Hib Dangerpora intercepted & apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Abdullah Wani resident of Tujjar Shareef Sopore. During checking, 12 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Kulgam, a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Drien Daulatabad near NHW intercepted & apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Suhail Ahmad Ganie son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie resident of Brankher Drien, Daulatabad. During search, 5Kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Budgam, a police party of Police station Magam arrested 04 drug peddlers identified as Zahid Majeed Bhat son of Abdul Majeed Bhat, Irfan Ahmad War son of Abdul Ahad War both residents of Peth-Kanihama, Tariq Ahmad Parray son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray resident of Warihama and Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rahman Dar resident of Badran Magam. During search, 40 bottles of codeine phosphate and cash amount of Rs. 13100/= was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. More recoveries and arrests are expected in the said case.

In Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Shri Mohd Nawaz-JKPS, assisted by Incharge PP Palhallan arrested a drug smuggler namely Abdul Hameed Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir resident of Seru Gudwani Pattan during checkpoint at TCP Palpora Crossing Pattan. During search, 2.750 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
