42nd meeting of Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of FSSAI was held today at Pahalgam.
Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Kamala Vardhana Rao (IAS) virtually chaired the meeting, while as Executive Director, FSSAI Inosha Sharma chaired the meeting physically at Pahalgam
Among others meeting was attended by CAC Members, special invitees from different ministries, besides members from consumer organisations, research bodies and food industry.
Threadbare discussions with regard to the enforcement of the laws governing implementation of the prescribed rules of FSSAI, besides maintaining continuous surveillance on the street food, in order to prevent food adulteration and enhance food safety by the concerned officials were held in the meeting.
It was reiterated that food, and storage standards should be monitored by the food safety inspectors constantly, adding that inspections of the street food in a large scale must be ensured.
It was further discussed that the Central government is ready to provide food safety labs, infrastructure, technology and knowledge sharing required for conducting food safety tests and asked the officials to expedite the certification process for the food sold in restaurants, and fast food centres.
Talking to media, Executive Director, FSSAI Inosha Sharma said that meeting was aimed to discuss how to improve the food safety standards in the country and how to make ensure the proper hygiene of the Food item throughout the country. She stressed for awareness regarding ensuring the mark of FSSAI on all food packets
