KATHUA, APRIL 06: Kathua district has witnessed a major crackdown on MCC violations since its imposition. In continuation of the drive, the enforcement teams have seized a huge sum of cash and liquor till April 06, 2024.
With unwavering dedication, enforcement teams across Kathua have intercepted and confiscated Rs. 63.50 lakh in cash and liquor valued at Rs.46.93 lakh, amounting to cumulative sum of Rs. 110.43 lakh. These decisive actions epitomize a collective commitment to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process.
District Election Officer Kathua, Dr Rakesh Minhas while giving details said, “Our enforcement teams are on continuous vigil, swiftly identifying and rectifying any breaches of the model code of conduct.” Such concerted efforts play a pivotal role in deterring illicit activities that may undermine the democratic process, thereby ensuring that voters can exercise their rights free from external influence or coercion, he added.
“The individuals providing evidence supporting their claims regarding seized cash have their funds released within stipulated timelines, underscoring commitment to due process” he informed.
However, he said liquor quantities exceeding the permissible limit are being withheld, as part of our efforts to maintain adherence to regulatory standards.
The proactive approach underscores our dedication to fostere a fair and impartial electoral environment for all stakeholders involved.
Pertinently, the seizures of cash and liquor beyond prescribed limit/ proper record during MCC are subject to be scrutiny of the mandated procedures for which ECI has given powers to various Surveillance Teams.
