ANANTNAG, MAY 09: The picturesque Sinthan Top in District Anantnag today witnessed a mega Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme to generate awareness regarding value of exercising franchise and ensure larger voter turnout in the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections in the district.
The programme held under the overall guidance of District Election Officer Anantnag, SF Hamid was headed by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag and was organised under collaborative efforts of Nodal Officer SVEEP, Information & Public Relations Anantnag, Youth Services and Sports, Government Degree Colleges of Kokernag and Larnoo. The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited offered logistic support.
During the programme, a series of events were held. A rally consisting of first time voters from the degree colleges was held at Daksum. The first time voters pledged to vote in the upcoming elections.
The rally was followed by a car rally and a walkathon near Sinthan Top in which students and officials from various line departments participated.
The highlight of the Mega SVEEP programme at the Sinthan top was Snow Cricket Match, Snow Volleyball, Snow Tug of War and Snow mobiles rally. Later the winners of various competitions and other participants were awarded with certificates and medals.
Notably, the Sinthan top which is located at a height of 12500 ft is still covered with snow and this presented a fascinating backdrop for the event which was aimed at encouraging first time voters to vote in the upcoming election and also to act as election ambassadors.
Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency is scheduled to go to Polls on 25th May. Until then, the District is seeing intensification in SVEEP related activities to encourage all voters to cast their votes on the election day.
