The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. This year, the 10th International Day of Yoga is being celebrated with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”
The 10 th International Yoga Day was organized by Northern Railway at Karnail Singh Stadium, New Delhi Today, Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Railway Board , Shri Anil Kumar Khandelwal, Member Infrastructure, Railway Board, Shri Satish Kumar Member Traction and Rolling Stock. Railway Board, Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway, Shri Sukhwinder Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi and other senior officers & staff of Railway Board and Northern Railway were present on this occasion and performed yoga asanas.
Yoga is very helpful in curbing life style related problems. A large number of participants took part with great enthusiasm in the Yoga session under the guidance of Yoga Instructors. Some simple and useful yoga asanas and yoga kriyas were also performed on the occasion.
Yoga, a transformative practice, represents the harmony of mind and body, the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfillment. It integrates the body, mind, spirit, and soul, offering a holistic approach to health and well-being that brings peace to our hectic lives. Its power to transform is what we celebrate on this special day. Railway officers and staff who are tasked with running thousands of trains every day, remain in a state of high alert. Railway runs 24X7 without a single minute of break, placing immense mental and physical stress on its employees and officers. In order to ameliorate the effect of such demands on day-to-day working, Asanas and Prayanam are promoted to inculcate a healthy mind in a healthy body amongst officers and staff.
On the occasion, Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha encouraged the employees and officers to inculcate yoga as part of their lifestyle, it would be beneficial in reducing work related stress and boost immunity.
