Shri Ashok Bhat, District President Bharatiya Janata Party District Srinagar accompanied by MS Sabi Ali and Mr Majid Khan today visited Safakadal from where a girl tried to end her life by jumping from the bridge into the river jehlum. Timely intervention from the shakara vallas led by Ab Salam Dar retrieved the girl alive from the river. This is the second attempt of suicide by girls during the past few days . Four days back a girl from Khansahib area jumped into the river from the same bridge and her body has not been located till date.
We can say that Safakadal bridge has become a death trap for the disturbed minded youth. In order to avoid reoccuranrance to such incidents immediate fencing of the bridge is required on the model of new Amirakadal bridge. Therefore, Shri Ashok Bhat, appealed the Srinagar Administration especially Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to get the walls of the bridge fenced to avoid such incidents in future. Police patrolling on the bridge will also be an act of deterrent.
Shri Ashok Bhat further said that Since the suicide and suicidal attempts are rampant is kashmir from the last few years especially among youth, therefore, society is duty bound to find its solution by teaching the youth tthe value of life. All religions also prohibit the humans from suicides. Therefore, religious people and religious Organization are requested to take this grave issue on priority in order to curb such happenings.
