Pulwama, Sep. 16: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Pulwama Police arrested one drug peddler and recovered 11.17 grams of heroin. Acting on reliable information, a police party from Police Station Pulwama established a Naka checkpoint at Circular Road Malikpora Crossing. During the operation, a Santro vehicle with registration number JK01N-4401 was intercepted.
The driver, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Tantray, S/O Manzoor Ahmad Tantray, R/O Kremshore Khansahib, presently residing at Check Puhroo Nowgam, was searched. A polythene packet containing heroin was recovered from his possession. On initial questioning, Fayaz failed to provide a valid explanation for possessing the contraband and was found to be involved in the illegal trade of heroin, selling the drug to local youth at exorbitant prices, thus contributing to drug addiction in the area.
A case under FIR No. 187/2024 U/S 8/22 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Pulwama, and an investigation is underway. This operation is part of Pulwama Police’s ongoing efforts to combat the menace of drug addiction in the district.
