Kishtwar, Oct 30: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Shri Abdul Qayoom-JKPS, conducted a comprehensive crime and security review meeting today at the District Police Office, Kishtwar, focusing on the security of the district’s hydro electric power projects, other vital installations, and preparations for the upcoming Deepawali celebrations. The meeting aimed to ensure public safety during the festive season and protect key infrastructure in the district. The meeting was attended by Addl. SP Kishtwar, Addl. SP PC Kishtwar, SDPOs, SHOs, IC PPs, IOs, and other senior officers.
The review covered essential aspects of security and crime management, focusing on the following key areas:
Review of Crime Trends – SSP Kishtwar led an analysis of recent crime patterns across the district to identify priority areas for proactive intervention.
Progress in Ongoing Investigations – Updates on ongoing investigations were reviewed, with a focus on timely case resolution and ensuring justice for victims through effective case management.
Strengthening Community Policing – Emphasis was placed on community engagement, fostering a cooperative approach to public safety, and reinforcing peace within the community.
Evaluating Crime Prevention Measures – Current crime prevention initiatives were assessed to optimize resource allocation and enhance security outcomes district-wide.
Addressing Drug Abuse – Discussions included comprehensive measures to combat drug abuse through prevention, awareness, rehabilitation, and targeted enforcement.
Counteracting Bovine Smuggling – Strategies to address bovine smuggling were reviewed, focusing on coordinated actions to disrupt this illegal practice and protect local interests.
Advancing Anti-Militancy Efforts – Updates on anti-militancy operations highlighted the district’s commitment to vigilance and proactive measures to ensure regional security.
In addition, SSP Kishtwar highlighted the ongoing training of Village Defence Groups (VDGs) to equip them with essential skills in community safety and rapid response. The training aims to enhance the readiness of VDGs to support law enforcement efforts, particularly in remote and sensitive areas, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively to any potential threats.
SSP Kishtwar also emphasized the importance of securing the district’s major hydro electric power projects. Detailed security protocols were reviewed, including enhanced surveillance, regular patrolling, and deployment of dedicated security personnel to protect these critical infrastructures from potential threats.
To reinforce vigilance, SSP Kishtwar instructed officers to maintain daily updates through E-beat book records and directed them to strengthen area domination, increase patrolling, and conduct targeted CASOs (Cordon and Search Operations) in vulnerable zones. Officers were urged to remain alert, fortify checkpoints, and proactively gather intelligence to counter potential anti-national activities.
Commending the officers for their continuous efforts, SSP Kishtwar stressed the importance of heightened vigilance, especially during the festive season, to ensure a secure and peaceful environment for all residents of Kishtwar.
