Srinagar: The Kashmir Sewa Sangh (KSS), under the leadership of its founder and president, Firdous Baba, has called for special status or an aid package for downtown Srinagar to address its socio-economic challenges. At a press conference held today, Baba emphasized the need for development projects aimed at uplifting the region’s marginalized communities, particularly women and youth.
Baba unveiled a series of community initiatives, including the establishment of a charitable hospital and a free coaching center to prepare students for competitive exams like UPSC, NEET, and JEE. “Our priority is to create economic opportunities and improve access to education and healthcare,” he said.
Push for Transparency in Waqf Board Management
The KSS president also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into alleged corruption and mismanagement of Waqf Board lands. He underscored the need for accountability, stating that better utilization of Waqf resources could significantly contribute to improving education and healthcare.
Adding to the discussion, KSS executive board member Shahid Sayeed presented the organization’s publication, Waqf Bill 2024: Respect for Islam and Gift to Muslims. The book, launched by Cabinet Minister for Minority Affairs Kiran Rijiju, explores corruption in Waqf institutions and offers solutions for reform.
Focus on Women and Youth Empowerment
In a bid to uplift women and youth, KSS announced multiple programs, including skill development, educational support, sports activities, and initiatives for women artisans. “We aim to provide equal opportunities for young people to thrive in a competitive world,” Baba said.
Aliza Izhar, National Executive Member (Education), emphasized the urgent need to improve Kashmir’s educational infrastructure, while Nasir Ali Khan, National Executive Member (Road Safety), discussed KSS’s road safety awareness campaigns and called for better traffic enforcement and infrastructure.
Future Vision for Global Collaboration
The KSS leadership also highlighted plans to expand their initiatives beyond Kashmir by collaborating with international organizations. “We envision building a platform of solidarity for the people of Kashmir in over 32 countries,” Baba added.
The press conference concluded with KSS reiterating its commitment to fostering social upliftment and creating a brighter future for downtown Srinagar.
