Cold intensifies as Kashmir’s Gulmarg record -3°C night temp

Srinagar:  The Ski resort of Gulmarg and tourist destination of Pahalgam remained the coldest places with minimum temperatures dipped to minus 3.0°C and minus 2.6°C on Monday, officials said.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the minimum temperature during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at the ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district dipped to minus 3.0°C against the minus 1.8°C recorded on Sunday. It was minus 1.5°C below normal for the valley of meadow during this period of the season.

The day temperature recorded at Gulmarg was also 4.4°C Celsius below normal of 7.9°C on Sunday.

The tourist destination of Pahalgam also witnessed further drop in the night temperature and recorded at minus 2.6°C against minus 2.0°C recorded the previous night. It was 0.5°C below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar also plunged to 2.0°C on Monday against 5.0°C recorded the previous night. It was, however, 1.3°C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir valley, had a minimum of 2.6°C against the 5.4°C recorded the previous night and it was 2.1°C above normal.

The picnic spot of Kokernag also in south Kashmir recorded a low of 4.2°C which was 2.8°C above normal of 1.4°C on Monday.

Kupwara had a low of 0.2°C against the 1.1°C recorded the previous night and it was still 0.5C above normal for the border district in north Kashmir on Monday.

The day’s temperature improved, but remained below normal, even as the bright sun appeared in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley on Monday.

The MeT office said the weather in Kashmir valley is likely to remain dry till November 23.

It said another wet spell is likely to commence on November 24 with the possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches and at scattered places of Kashmir and isolated places of Jammu division.

Thereafter the weather is very likely to remain generally dry till November 30, it said.
