Srinagar: In a significant step towards the elimination of tuberculosis (TB) in Srinagar district by 2025, a state-of-the-art 4-bay Truenat machine which is a chip-based, rapid molecular test for diagnosis of Tuberculosis has been installed at Tuberculosis Unit-2 PHC Zadibal, Srinagar. This advanced diagnostic tool is capable of conducting four tests simultaneously within approximately one hour, making it a game-changer in the fight against TB.
Dr. Abdul Roof, District Tuberculosis Officer Srinagar extended heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, District Development Commissioner Srinagar for
providing this essential equipment. “Dr. Bilal Mohuddin Sahib has always been apillar of support for all NTEP-related activities and has played a vital role in strengthening our efforts to eliminate TB in the district,” he said. This machine not only ensures rapidand accurate TB detection but can also identify rifampicin resistance, a critical factor indiagnosing drug-resistant TB. Its portable and
battery-operated design makes it highly adaptable for use in various healthcare settings.
Special thanks were also extended to Chief Medical Officer Srinagar, Dr. Tahir Sajad, for facilitating the whole process and ensuring smooth coordination for this initiative.
Dr. Rubeena Aziz, Zonal Medical Officer of Zadibal, expressed her gratitude to the authoritiesfor providing the advanced Truenat machine to the Zadibal zone.
She emphasized that this diagnostic facility would significantly enhance early tuberculosis (TB) detection, reduce delays in treatment initiation,and eliminate the need for patients to travel to tertiary care hospitals for molecular testing, thereby saving on transportation costs. Additionally, she highlighted that this initiative will contribute to achieving the goal of a TB-free Srinagar by 2025.
