Lieutenant Governor reviews progress of Tawi Riverfront project

JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today conducted the on-site inspection and reviewed the progress of Tawi Riverfront project.

The Lieutenant Governor directed the officers and implementing agencies to accelerate the pace of work for completion of the prestigious project in a time-bound manner.

Interacting with the media persons, the Lieutenant Governor said: “The work on the first phase of this flagship project under Jammu Smart City is expected to be completed by the month of January, 2025.

Tawi Riverfront project will expand the tourism potential of Jammu. Many other projects and initiatives like Jambu Zoo, Light & Sound Show, Temple of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams etc have already been completed to further increase the tourism potential of Jammu Division.

Around 5000-6000 people are visiting Suchetgarh and Tirumala Tirupati Temple every day. The number is increasing during weekend. Efforts are being made to create more such destinations in Jammu city and Jammu region with the assistance of the Government of India. I congratulate Jammu Smart City, it was a difficult project, I hope that the people of Jammu will enjoy the Tawi Riverfront,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by Sh Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Sh Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary; Jal Shakti Department; Dr Mandeep Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor and Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner/Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department.

Sh Yudhvir Sethi, Member of Legislative Assembly; Sh Devansh Yadav, CEO Jammu Smart City Limited and senior officials were also present.

“This project was a difficult one but credit goes to the smart city team for working hard. Jehlum Tawi River Front work is close to be completed. Ninety percent work is over and remaining is will be over soon, ” the LG said while speaking to reporters after visiting the site.

He said that the project will attract tourists from all over the country and also from the globe.

The LG said that in the phase two, a township will be established on the banks of Tawi River which will also be a major attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists.

“Time is not far when evenings in Jammu will look like that of Lucknow, he said.
