Srinagar: Tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir after an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan on Thursday, officials said.
The tremors were felt at 4.19 pm and lasted for a few seconds.
As per National Center for Seismology, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at latitude 36.49 in the north and longitude 71.27 in the east, with a recorded depth of 165 kilometres in Afghanistan.
There was no report of any loss of life or damage to property, they said.
Srinagar and some parts of Kashmir valley were also jolted by a light intensity earthquake yesterday with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter Scale.
